Appellate Division stays illegal occupation case against Moudud

The Appeallate Division (AD) has stayed the proceedings of a case against BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed over illegal occupation of a house at the city’s Gulshan. The High Court had earlier declared the trial court’s cognisance of the charges pressed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) against the former law minister as legal. Moudud Ahmed moved the Appellate Division against it and on Sunday, the four-member bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha heard the matter. It stayed the proceedings of the case until August 30 and ordered the BNP Standing Committee member to file a ‘leave to appeal’ petition. Moudud Ahmed represented himself during the hearing while Khurshid Alam Khan argued for the ACC. “The appeals court will hear the matter on August 30”, Khan told bdnews24.com.
