The deadline for submission of application forms for the city development authority's much-talked-about housing projects expires Thursday with over 0.1million applicants vying for around 8,000 plots, officials said.
Sukumar Chandra Saha, member estate of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), told the FE Tuesday that the city development authority has not received any government intimation regarding extension of the deadline for procurement and submission of forms.
"So, the deadline will expire on Thursday as per schedule."
Initially the last dates for procurement and submission of forms were December 17 and December 18 last year, according to Rajuk's first announcement. But it later extended the deadlines twice - first on December 17 and then in early January and set April 29 and 30 deadlines due to huge rush of applicants.
Mr Saha said 1,08,000 plot seekers have so far submitted applications for different size of plots under the two projects of Uttara Model Town (third phase) and Purbachal New Town.
"We think the number of applicants will increase as there are two more days left for submission of forms," he said.
When asked about the date for the publication of names of the recipients, Mr Saha said: "The state minister for housing has said that the result will be given by June. We are working keeping that date in mind."
In late March, Abdul Mannan Khan, the state minister for housing, said that the government would finalise the allocation of plots at Uttara Model Town and Purbachal New Town projects by June this year.
Rajuk officials said they would complete the scrutiny of the applications within two months so that allotment could be made by June.
Rajuk is taking a deposit of Tk 75,000 for a 3-katha plot, Tk 1 lakh for a 5-katha, Tk 1.50 lakh for 7.5-katha and Tk 2 lakh for 10-katha plot under the two projects.
They are taking $1500 for a 3-katha plot, $ 2000 for 5-katha, $ 2500 for 7.5-katha and $3500 for 10-katha plot from non-resident Bangladeshi applicants.
