Appointment of 12,500 doctors, nurses, health assistants to be completed by Apr

Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque Tuesday said that the government had recruited additional 12,500 doctors, nurses and health assistants apart from providing necessary equipment and medicines for treatment with a view to improving the standard of health services at the field level, reports UNB.
"The appointment process will end by the current month," he said at a press briefing at the Health Ministry ahead of the World Health Day to be observed today (Wednesday).
The Health Minister said 2,500 nurses have already been appointed and interview of 4,000 doctors will be completed by the current month.
Besides, he said, the process of appointing 6,000 health assistants has also been completed.
bdnews24.com. adds: the government said on the eve of World Health Day, that 12 district cities would be selected as "healthy cities".
"We will take a number of steps in the cities including the development of health services, and increasing the standard of their management," Health Minister AFM Ruhal Haque told a press conference Tuesday.
The government has already earmarked Chittagong as a "health city", he said.
It is not known when the government will provide the names of the cities.
