Appointment of CEC, EC President invites 6 more pol parties to dialogue

President M Zillur Rahman has invited six more political parties to dialogue on the appointment of the next chief and other election commissioners under a political consensus, reports BSS. The President's dialogue will start on December 22 at Bangabhaban. His talks with Jatiya Party (Ershad) will be held at 11.00am and with Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal at 12 noon on the first day. "We sent letters to six more political parties Tuesday to join the dialogue next week. Other parties will be invited in phases," President's Press Secretary AKM Nesar Uddin Bhuiyan told the news agency. The invitation letters have been sent to Bangladesh Workers' Party (WP), Jatiya Party (JP), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Bangladesh Communist Party (CPB), Bangladesh Samyabadi Dal (BSD) and Islamic Front Bangladesh (IFB). As per the schedule for the next week, the President will sit with WP at 11.00 am and JP at 12.00 noon on December 26, LDP at 11.00 am and CPB at 12.00 noon on December 27 and BSD at 11.00 am and IFB at 12.00 noon on December 29. The five-year tenure of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda and Election Commissioner M Sohul Hussein will expire on February 4 while Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain's on February 14.
