The Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) has outright rejected the 'Private University Order-2008', passed by the Council of Advisers, as it said the order will create an impasse in the arena of the country's higher education.
APUB Vice-President Abul Quashem Haider in a written statement Wednesday expressed his extreme resentment over the order and made an earnest request to President Iajuddin Ahmed not to give his assent to it.
The statement said the order includes several measures through which the government will largely control the private universities and retard their dynamism.
"The ensuing elected government may take initiatives to reform the 'Private University Act-1992' revised in 1998, through Parliament if necessary", the statement of the association of the country's 53 private universities said.
