Tuesday, 26 June 2007

Arambagh KS notched their 6th win in the B League as they beat Khulna Abahani KC by 2-0 goals in the day's lone 2nd phase match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) in the city Monday, reports UNB.
With the day's outcome, Arambagh KS moved up to the 6th position in the league points table securing 19 points from 14 matches while Khulna Abahani KC remained at 11 points, also playing 14 matches.
Two foreign recruits-Kenyan Thomas Wangira Biketi and Ugandan midfielder Iddi Badambuze -- shared the goals for Arambagh KS.
Khulna Abahani KC launched the first attack with Prashanto Dey unleashing a powerful left-footer from the right side of the D-box in the 8th minute, but Arambagh custodian Piaruzza-man Piru brilliantly fisted the ball for corner.
Then in the 28th minute, Arambagh KS was poised for the lead but a Thomas header off a left side Domenic corner was cleared by opponent defender Moniruzzaman from the goal line.
After the breather, Khulna Abahani KC squandered two good chances -- first in the 53rd minute when Awlad Hossain from a vantage position failed to utilise a left side Moshiul free kick.
Khulna Abahani missed the second good chance as Monu and unmarked Ridan, both on the edges of the small box, failed to capitalise again on a Moshiul free kick.
When the match was almost heading towards a goal-less draw, substitute goalie of Khulna Abahani KC Nahid Akhter committed a foul in the 82nd minute as he kicked Arambagh forward Nicodemus while gripping the ball, thus awarding a penalty.
Thomas then made it 1-0 for the winners in the 84th minute with a well-judged spot kick (1-0).
Iddi added to the woes of Khulna Abahani scoring the 2nd goal for Arambagh in the injury time of the 2nd half as his right- footer from top of the D-box went home sailing over onrushing opponent goalie Nahid (2-0).
