Archeologists call to protect Hinga Bibi mosque

The government should take steps to protect the Hinga Bibi Mosque, a 300-year old monument built in the Mughal era, which recently suffered damages, according to an archeologist. Three domes of the mosque were dismantled last week after the mosque committee decided to renovate it. “The government must take steps to protect the monument built in the Mughal era. The damaged mosque could be brought to old shapes of design using old photographs of it, Dr Sufi Mostafizur Rahman, a professor of Archeological Department at Jahangirnagar University, said. About the recent damage of the Hinga Bibi Mosque located in Armanitola in Old Dhaka, an archeologist said the mosque committee is not only responsible in this regard, the ministry concerned and departments of the government committed a punishable offence as they did not take proper steps to protect the old mosque. He stressed the need for formatting a high power committee comprising the eminent archeologists to protect the country’s all monuments, including Hinga Bibi Mosque, which have a social, economic and historical importance, according to UNB.
