Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) DG Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed has said smuggling of firearms has increased across the border recently. Briefing to reporters at Pilkhana BGB headquarters, Maj Gen Aziz said the BGB has been already ordered to increase its vigilance across the border following information of increasing illegal firearms smugglings into the country. “We already ordered to strengthen monitoring system across the border as it is now our concern,” he said. A total of 17 pistols were seized by the BGB in the last two months, ending on February 28 this year. The figure was 26 in 12 months in 2013, 23 in 2012, 13 in 2011 and 20 in 2010. About killing of Bangladeshi nationals across the border, the BGB Director General said the trend of Bangladeshi killing by BSF is sliding. The number of killing across the border has already decreased and it will be brought down to zero level, he said, adding India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has already started using non-lethal weapons in this regard, according to UNB.
