Army cautions people against frauds over relief distribution

Tuesday, 25 March 2008

Following a number of cheating cases over relief and rehabilitation of Sidr victims, the army cautioned local camp authorities and people to remain alert against the frauds, reports UNB.
"Although proper distribution system is existing in relief and rehabilitation among Sidr victims, a section of touts and dishonest public representatives are trying to deceive the innocent poor people identifying themselves as close to the army," said an ISPR release Sunday.
A few of these swindlers have already been handed over to police, the release added.
It also said that lists of affected people during post-Sidr period have been prepared in time. So, at this point of time, identification of affected people, extending support or recommendation by any person in preparing list is totally unacceptable.
Bangladesh Army was the first aid agency to come forward after the Sidr attack on November 15 last year. From the very beginning, Army has been conducting rescue and relief operation and rehabilitation in the affected areas.
Currently, the army, under its midterm and long-term rehabilitation schemes, is distributing fishing-nets, heads of cattle, power-tillers, rickshaws and vans for developing the standard of affected people's livelihood.
