Army Chief calls on President, PM

Newly-appointed Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq met President Md Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Sunday, reports UNB.
During the meeting, Mr Huq expressed his gratitude to the government for appointing him as the Chief of Army Staff and sought the President's cooperation in developing and modernising the Bangladesh Army.
Meanwhile, newly-appointed Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina at her Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office on Sunday.
The PM assured the new Army chief of extending her all possible cooperation in performing his duties, and wished his success.
Earlier, an ISPR press release says: Newly-appointed Army Chief  General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq on Sunday placed a wreath at the Shikha Anirban at Dhaka Cantonment paying tributes to the soldiers martyred during the Liberation War in 1971.
A smartly turned out contingent of the Armed Forces presented him a guard of honour. The army chief also planted a tree there and took part in a doa mahfil. Other senior officials of the force were present on the occasion.
