Army chief for thorough overhauling of age-old administrative system Rules out any plan to join politics

Chief of Army Staff Moeen U Ahmed Wednesday said the age-old administrative system, devoid of IT facilities, now needs thorough overhauling to ensure the economic well-being of the people.
He made the observation in a meeting with a group of newspaper editors Wednesday at the Army Headquarters in the city.
He said the present caretaker government in cooperation with and support from the people has been able to stabilise the law and order situation and restore normalcy in the social and economic spheres of life.
Moeen also referred to the reforms brought about in the Election Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission, and Public Service Commission.
He said due to the intensive drive, the government has recovered an approximate amount of Tk 23.23 billion (2323 crore) in outstanding electricity, gas, telephone and water bills and also from land revenue and trade licences till todate since January 11.
Out of the Tk 23.23 billion, Tk 11 billion came from arrear bills of electricity, Tk 5.21 billion from gas bills, Tk 4.18 billion from telephone bills, Tk 1.95 billion from water bills, Tk 430 million from land revenue and Tk 460 million from trade licences.
He said the government's success also includes recovery of 14,187 acres of government land, recovery of Tk 2.605 billion, which was siphoned off by corrupt persons from the country.
Another amount of Tk 600 million is being deposited with the central bank, he mentioned.
