Army chief inaugurates tree plantation

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman on Thursday inaugurated the 'Bangladesh Army Tree Plantation Campaign-2026' by planting a sapling at Nirjhar Residential Area in Dhaka Cantonment, reports BSS.
The Army Chief highlighted the importance of tree plantation in protecting the environment, maintaining ecological balance and building a greener and more sustainable Bangladesh, said a press release of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.
It said tree plantation programmes are also being observed simultaneously at all cantonments, Defence Officers Housing Scheme (DOHS) areas and Jalsiri Housing Project sites across the country.
With the theme, "Brikkhoropone Sajai Desh, Sobar Age Bangladesh (Let's decorate the country through tree plantation, Bangladesh first)", the programme is being conducted.
As part of the campaign, fruit-bearing, timber and medicinal trees, along with ornamental plants, will be planted at suitable locations in all cantonments, DOHS areas and Jalsiri Housing Project areas.
The campaign would continue until the last week of September 2026, the ISPR added.
