Army deployment from Dec 18

The army is being called out in advance from December 18 for policing the upcoming polls, sensing sabotage in the intervening period, as the state of emergency goes on December 17 in the run-up to the crucial election, reports UNB.
The precautionary measure is being taken following reports in print and electronic media as well as by intelligence agencies, Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain said Monday.
He said the Election Commission (EC) has decided to deploy army across the country from December 20, although the commission had previously planned the deployment from December 24.
However, he said, troops would start fanning out to the field from December 18, two days ahead of their deployment at the designated stations on duty for the December 29 parliamentary election.
