Army deployment from today

Saturday, 20 December 2008

Troops will be deployed from today (Saturday) at designated places across the country as striking force to help ensure peaceful parliamentary elections on December 29. The troops started rolling out from Thursday from barracks, two days earlier than the schedule, for remote places. They will be posted in aid of the civil administration to maintain law and order in accordance with the decision of the Election Commission. The troops are poised to take up the assignment after 72 hours of lifting of the state of emergency. The emergency was lifted on December 17 following an order from President Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed. — UNB
