Army initiates pisciculture in 34km Teesta barrage canal

NILPHAMARI, Nov 5: To reduce poverty among the extremely poor people in the 'monga' prone region, the army initiated a big pisciculture project in the 34-kilometre main canal of Teesta barrage.
In a simple ceremony recently Mokhlesur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Nilphamari released 400-kg first instalment of fish fries in the canal water, Major Anis Md Ershadul Hoq, district fisheries officer M. I. Gojger, UNO Khorshed Alam and hundreds of people were present on the occasion. Sources said several groups would be formed comprising the hardcore poor people to look after and supervise the project and they will ultimately enjoy the benefit of it.
