Arrest of 3 ex-Rab officials by today

Wednesday, 14 May 2014

State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal Tuesday said the three controversial Rab officials, already dismissed from their jobs for their alleged involvement in the killing of seven people after their abduction in Narayanganj, would be arrested by Wednesday (today) in compliance with the High Court (HC) order, reports UNB.
"As per the High Court order and the due process, the agency concerned has been given the necessary instruction, and they'll be arrested by Wednesday," Asaduzzaman told over phone in the evening.
Asked what actually the due process was, the state minister said, "As per the court order, the IGP has been informed first and then the SP of Narayanganj …the departments concerned of the Army have also been informed about it, and they'll be arrested through the Army."
He said the ex-Rab officials would be produced before the court after their arrest.
Sought comments over Khaleda Zia's demand she made during her Narayanganj visit earlier in the day that the Rab officials be arrested by Tuesday, Asaduzzaman said, "She (Khaleda) says so many things."
The three ex-Rab officials are Lt Col Tarek Syed Mahmud, Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana of Rab-11. They were earlier sent on forced retirement following the allegations of their involvement in the killing of the seven people, including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker.
On Sunday, the HC issued a rule asking the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take immediate steps to arrest the three former Rab officials.
On May 5, the HC bench had also issued a suo moto rule asking the government to form a seven-member committee to investigate the allegation that Rab personnel were involved in the incident.
Accordingly, the Public Administration Ministry formed the committee which held a public hearing at Narayanganj Circuit House on Monday on the sensational seven murders.
