SIRAJGANJ, Feb 1 (UNB): A section of ruling Awami League (AL) activists went berserk on Raiganj Upazila Parishad premises Sunday protesting the arrest of one of their leaders in a tender manipulation case.
The police said Acting General Secretary of upazila AL Abu Bakar filed a case against party's Joint Secretary Abu Sayeed Pathan, accusing him of extortion and tender manipulation.
The case was filed following a conflict over sharing of tender works of the Upazila Engineer's Office on January 27.
The police arrested the accused AL leader Sunday morning.
As the news of arrest spread, his supporters attacked the Upazila Parishad building and damaged its doors and windows and vandalised four adjacent shops.
Two vehicles, parked on the parishad premises, were also set on fire during the attack.
