Arrest Rab officers: HC

The High Court has ordered the home ministry to arrest the three suspended Rab officers over the multiple murders at Narayanganj. The bench of Justices Mirza Hussain Haider and Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar issued the order on Sunday. The three officers are RAB-11 commander former Lt Col Tarek Syeed Mahmud, Maj Arif Hossain and Navy’s Lt Col MM Rana.Tarek Sayeed Mahmud is the son-in-law of Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya. The three officers were sent into forced retirement after they were accused of abduction and murder of seven men in Narayanganj at the behest of local Awami League leader Nur Hossain. The High Court issued the order on Sunday based on a hearing of a petition seeking the formation of a judicial commission for probing the abductions and murders. The court said the former army officers were to be arrested under Section 54 if no charges were found against them under penal code or Special Powers Act. On Apr 27, Narayanganj City Councillor Nazrul Islam and his four aides and lawyer Chandan Sarkar and his driver were abducted from the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. Their bodies were found floating in the Shitalakhyya River three days later, according to bdnews24.com.
