Arrest warrant against BNP leader Tuku in graft case

Tuesday, 12 September 2023

A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against BNP standing committee member Iqbal Hasan Mahmood Tuku in a graft case as he failed to surrender before it following an order of the High Court, reports BSS.
Dhaka Special Judges Court-5 judge Iqbal Hossain passed the order on Monday.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Tuku with Mohammadpur thana for concealing information about property worth Tk 49.6 million on March 21, 2007.
On November 15, 2007, a trial court sentenced Tuku to nine years in imprisonment in the case. After hearing on an appeal filed by the BNP leader, the High Court (HC) acquitted him from the charges on June 15 in 2011.
Following an appeal by the ACC against the HC judgment, the Appellate Division (AD) scrapped the HC judgment on January 21, 2014, and ordered to hold the trial afresh. The AD also canceled another plea of Tuku to review its judgment.
