Arrest warrant issued against Basundhara chairman

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Basundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and seven others in a tax evasion case filed Wednesday. Kabiruddin Mollah, Deputy Tax Commissioner (Circle-8), filed the case with the Metropolitan Sessions Court against them for evasion of income tax amounting to Tk 82.6 million (8.26 crore) since 2004 (FY). The accused also included Afroza Begum, wife of Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, their sons Sadek Sobhan, Safayet Sobhan and Sayem Sobhan. After hearing, Judge M Azizul Hoque issued the arrest warrant and fixed July 31 for the next hearing. — UNB
