Arrest warrant issued against Nizami, Sayedi, Rafiq

KHULNA, Mar 25 (UNB): A court in Khulna issued an arrest warrant against Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, leaders Delwar Hossain Saydee and Rafiqul Islam Khan in a defamation case filed Thursday.
Metropolitan Magistrate Barekuzzaman issued an arrest warrant at 1:00 pm after hearing of the case lodged by Raihanul Islam Farid, former vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
The court has fixed May 11 as the date for the next hearing in the case.
According to the prosecution, Prophet Mohammad (SM) was compared with Jamaat ameer Nizami during a meeting of the party on March 17, hurting the sentiments of Muslims.
Another report adds that the former BCL vice-president Asit Barun Bisaws filed a defamation case worth Tk 100 million against National Press Club President and BNP chairperson's adviser Showkat Mahmud in the same court at 2:50 pm.
After hearing the case, the court summoned Showkat Mahmud to be present before the court on April 27.
According to the prosecution, Mahmud made derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and female activists of BCL, at a grass-root level BNP meeting in Chittagong on March 20.
