Art exhibition in city Feb 7, 8

A two-day exhibition of contemporary art works from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan is going to start in Dhaka from February 7 with a view to popularising Asian art with the global audience.
The exhibition styled 'Transcending Borders II' will be held on February 7 and 8 at the Radisson Water Garden Hotel in the city, said a statement Wednesday.
Indian artist Ritu Jain and Pakistan-born Canadian artist Ishi Jami will organise the event to cater to the tastes of the sophisticated Dhaka art market and as a celebration of harmony and friendship between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Organisers said Asian art captures the spirit, cultural complexity and the charm of Asia. The two-day event will feature works of high distinction and diverse styles, genres and cultural themes.
Mohamed Mijarul Quayes, the foreign secretary, and Muhammad A (Rumee) Ali, managing director of BRAC, are expected to attend the opening ceremony of the exhibition. Works of as many as 31 artists of the sub-continent will be displayed at the event.
The Bangladeshi artists whose works will be displayed are: Late Quamrul Hasan (Master), Farida Zaman, Rafiqun Nabi, Shahid Kabir, Nasreen Begum, Kalidas Karmakar, Jamal Ahmed, Rokeya Sultana, Kanak Chanpa, Mithu and Preema Andaleeb.
The Indian artists whose works will be displayed are: Laxman Aelay, Vijay Belgave, Deepa Vedpathak, Raosaheb Gurav, Arvind Kolapkar, Shantkumar Hattarki, Sujata Achrekar and Jyoti Hattarki.
