Ashraf elected BEA president, Jamal secy

Prof Dr Ashraf Uddin Chowdhury of the University of Dhaka and Dr Jamaluddin Ahmed, FCA, have been elected president and general secretary respectively of Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) to lead the forum of economists for two years (2015-16).
Chief election commissioner Md. Zainal Abedin announced the results of the election that chose the 29-member executive committee to run the BEA, the apex body of the country's economists.
Bangladesh Bank Deputy General Manager Md. Mustafizur Rahman Sarder has been elected treasurer of the association.
The elections took place Saturday at the end of the 19th biennial conference of the organisation in Dhaka.
Dr. Jamaluddin Ahmed, also a former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB), was elected general secretary unopposed.
The conference also elected 5 vice presidents: Prof. Md. Tofazzal Hossain Miah, Dr. Mohammad Mamun, Prof. Md. Hanif, AF Mujtahid and AK Monowar Uddin Ahmed.
Among other elected office bearers are two joint secretaries: Dr. Md. Liakat Hossain Moral and Syeda Nazma Pervin. Five assistant secretaries elected are Shahanara Begum, Meherun Nesa, Mir Hasan Md. Zahid, Sheikh Ali Ahmed and Shukumar Ghosh.
The BEA voters also elected 14 members of the executive committee of the association. They are:  Dr. Abul Barakat, Dr. Md. Moazzem Hossain Khan, Dr. Nazmul Bari,  Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam,  Md. Saidur Rahman, Amirul Islam, AKM Ismail, Md. Morshed Hossain, Md. Jahangir Alam, Prof. Ajoy Kumar Biswas,  Md. Habibul Islam, Syed Esrarul Haque, Partha Sharathi Ghosh and Subhash Kumar Sen Gupta.
The 3-day conference of the association concluded Saturday with the election of the new BEA executive body.
