Ashraful gets his 8-yr ban reduced by 3 yrs

Monday, 29 September 2014

The disciplinary panel of Bangladesh Cricket Board has commuted the eight-year ban slapped on former skipper of Bangladesh National Cricket Team Mohammad Ashraful to five years.
The BCB disciplinary panel, headed by Justice M Abdur Rashid, reduced the punishment following an appeal made by Mohammad Ashraful, according to a news agency.
In 2013, Mohammad Ashraful of Dhaka Gladiators was banned from all forms of cricket activities for eight years for his involvement in match-fixing in the last Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
In its verdict released Monday, the disciplinary panel says, “The appeal of Mohammad Ashraful against the sanction dated 2 July 2013 of the Anti-Corruption Tribunal with effect from 7 July 2013 under the Anti-Corruption Code for Participants 2013 is partially upheld by the panel.”
The verdict, however, said Mohammad Ashraful would be entitled to return to cricket on or after August 13, 2016 upon production of a certificate of good conduct from the ICC as the last two years of the five-year ban is suspended subject to his participation in the anti-corruption education and training programme to be organised by BCB and/or ICC.
