ASI among two held with 0.65m Yaba tablets

CHITTAGONG, June 21 (UNB): Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized 0.65 million pieces of Yaba tablet from a car and arrested two people, including Special Branch (SB) of police, in the Lalpur area under Feni district on Sunday.
The arrestees were identified as Mahfuzur Rahman, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of SB and his driver Zabed Ali.
Sohel Mahmud, ASP, and assistant director, media wing of RAB-7, said when an 'Allion' car was running fast after hitting a child in the area, a patrol team of RAB-7 stopped the vehicle.
Searching the car they found Yaba tablets worth Tk 272.0 million and arrested the duo. At a press briefing, the ASP said Mahfuzur Rahman had been serving at the technical section of SB, Dhaka.
He had developed a good relation with the Yaba smugglers while working in Teknaf since 2011.
Quoting Mahfuzur Rahman, the ASP said Muhammad Belal, assistant sub-inspector of Cox's Bazar Intelligence Branch, Kumira camp in-charge of Sitakunda upazila sub-inspector Ashique, a muhuri of Dhaka High Court, Mohammad Motaleb, a lawyer Advocate Jakir Hossain and SB constable-Shaheen, Kashem had a link with Yaba trading.
Besides, the RAB members also recovered Tk 0.7 million in cash, four mobile phone sets, eight credit cards of different banks and three account books were recovered from his possession, he said.
