Monday, 23 June 2008

HONG KONG, June 22 (AFP): Major Asian currencies ended the week mainly up against the US dollar as a US interest rate hike was seen as less likely, and ahead of a Federal Reserve meeting.

Japanese Yen: The yen rebounded from a five-month low against the dollar in a week focused on receding prospects of an early interest rate hike by the US Federal Reserve Board.

Australian Dollar: The Australian dollar is set to rise against the greenback next week as expectations of further US interest rate hikes recede, dealers said.

New Zealand Dollar: The New Zealand dollar ended local trading Friday at 76.12 US cents, up from 75.02 at the end of the previous week.

Chinese Yuan: The yuan closed at 6.8815 to the dollar Friday on the exchange-traded market, compared with Thursday's close of 6.8770, and a closing price of 6.9015 to the dollar last Friday. On the over-the-counter market, it ended at 6.8801 to the dollar against 6.8776 in the previous day.
