Asian markets surge

Friday, 31 October 2008

TOKYO, Oct 30 (AFP): Asian stock markets surged as much as 10 per cent today as interest rate cuts brought bargain hunters out in force after months of misery over the global financial crisis.
Investors shrugged off a weak lead from Wall Street and piled back into markets that had lost half their value since the start of the year.
Japan's Nikkei index soared 9.96 per cent by the close, logging its fourth biggest gain ever as a weaker yen provided a boost to exporters.
