Asian mkts tumble on profit-taking, auto fears

HONG KONG, Mar 30 (AFP): Asian markets plummeted Monday as investors took profits and sold off stocks following three weeks of rallies, following new concerns about the future of the United States (US) car industry.
MUMBAI: Down 4.78 per cent. The Sensex fell 480.35 points to 9,568.14, snapping five straight days of gains.
TOKYO: Down 4.53 per cent. The Nikkei-225 lost 390.89 points to 8,236.08.
Toyota Motor fell 3.68 per cent to 3,140 yen, while Honda Motor lost 6.69 per cent to 2,300. Nissan plunged 7.67 per cent to 361.
HONG KONG: Down 4.70 per cent. The Hang Seng lost 663.17 points to 13,456.33.
SHANGHAI: Down 0.69 per cent. The Shanghai Composite lost 16.40 points to 2,358.04.
TAIPEI: Down 3.43 per cent. The weighted index fell 184.65 points to 5,206.05.
SEOUL: Down 3.24 per cent. The KOSPI lost 40.05 points to 1,197.46.
