Asian shares take their lead from the US

Japan's benchmark Nikkei index took its lead from the US on Thursday and opened in positive territory after reaching a fresh seven-year high a day earlier. The Nikkei 225 was up 0.76% in mid morning trade to 17,854.27 points. Australia's benchmark S&P/ASX 200 was up 0.49% at 5348.00 points on Thursday. Shares in Greater China were also in positive territory in mid-morning trade, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng index up 0.54% at 23,555.13 points, and Shanghai's benchmark composite index up 0.59% at 2,795.82 points. In South Korea, the Kospi index was up 0.62% at 1,982.19 points, according to BBC.
