Friday, 12 June 2009

HONG KONG, June 11 (AFP): Asian markets were mixed Thursday as data out of China showed exports were still being hammered, while oil prices reached a high for the year and Japanese data offered cause for hope.
Tokyo ended 0.10 per cent lower, although it had earlier in the day breached the 10,000 barrier for the first time since October 8.
That after the government revealed figures showing Asia's biggest economy had shrunk a revised 14.20 per cent in the first quarter, better than the 15.20 per cent reported last month.
Hong Kong was flat, while Sydney rose 0.57 per cent on resources and Seoul added 0.32 per cent. However, Singapore dropped 0.39 per cent and Shanghai 0.67 per cent.
In China, data showed shipments, a key part of the world's third biggest economy, fell 26.40 per cent year on year, the seventh consecutive month of decline, dealers said.
