Asian stocks slip as Wall Street wobbles

Asian stocks sank on Friday after Wall Street suffered its worst day of the year and weak German trade data fueled worry Europe is sliding into recession.

Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 index plunged 1.3 per cent to 15,286.25 points while Topix, the indices of all first-section shares, fell 1.41 per cent, or 17.75 points, to 1,243.03. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng lost 1.6 per cent to 23,144.81. Hit by overnight losses in US stocks and profit-taking following recent gains China’s two bourses tumbled on Friday. The Shanghai Composite Index shed 0.6 per cent to 2,375.28 while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, dropped 0.44 per cent, or 5.94 points, to 1,349.77. Seoul fell 1.3 per cent and Sydney and Singapore also declined, according to AP.
