ASL leader killed in Barisal

BARISAL, June 12 (BSS): A local Awami Swechchhasebak League (ASL) leader was killed allegedly by his cousin over a land related dispute at Mehendiganj upazila of the district on Friday.
The victim was identified as Idris Mazi (35), assistant secretary of Charakakria union unit of ASL and son of Sikander Mazi of Laskerpur village under the same upazila.
Local sources said Idris Mazi was hacked to death with sharp weapon allegedly by his cousin Iqbal Howlader over land related dispute after entering victim's room of the house in the early hours of Friday morning.
Mr Howlader fled the scene after indiscriminately chopping Mr Mazi in different parts of his body. He was rushed to Mehendiganj Upazila Health Complex where on duty doctor declared him dead.
Police sent the body to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
Ujjal Kumar Dey, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mehendiganj thana, confirmed the incident.
He said police launched a drive to arrest the killer.
