Aspirants protest new bar on DU admission

Hundreds of students staged demonstration in Dhaka University (DU) campus on Sunday, protesting the authorities’ decision not to allow students to sit for the DU entry test twice. Police detained four students from their gathering in front of ‘Raju Sculpture’. The arrestees are Rasel, Jony, Mamun and Raju. They are students of Science College in Dhaka city. DU acting proctor Prof Dr Mazad Ali said police arrested the four when they came to the campus to stage demonstration. ‘We did not give any permission to stage demo in the campus,’ he added. Witnesses said several hundred students of different colleges under the banner of general students came to the DU campus in small processions on Saturday morning. They gathered in front of ‘Raju Sculpture at TSC and staged a rally there. Police intervened as they tried to take out a procession from there, according to a news agency.
