Asrayan Prokalpo brings fortune for homeless women

RANGPUR, May 10 (BSS): The Asrayan Prokalpo, one of the government's most successful projects, has brought fortune anew to hundreds of the river-eroded homeless women and their children in the district in recent years.
Earlier, these women led floating life on embankments after losing everything they had following repeated river erosions and now they have become self-reliant through income generations with continuous assistance under the 'Asrayan Prokalpo.'
After their rehabilitation under the Asrayan Prokalpo, they have got houses, address, livelihoods and dream of a brighter future for their children following the comprehensive social safety-net programmes being implemented by the present government.
According to official sources, the rehabilitated women are now leaving happily with peace, eating meals thrice daily, having sound sleep at own homes, engaged in income generation activities, their children are going to the schools with brighter future.
Under the 'Asrayan Prokalpo', 1,830 river-eroded women-led families, have so far been rehabilitated in 230 tin-shed barrack houses built under the 21 projects in all eight upazilas in the district.
The local government departments have been implementing comprehensive activities for mainstreaming the rehabilitated women to make them self-reliant through providing necessary support, training and assistance.
Under the programme, the adult females and males of the rehabilitated families have been provided necessary training for increasing awareness on various issues, expertise and human resource development to engage them with income-generation works.
