Astami Snan begins at N\\\'ganj

NARAYANGANJ, Apr 7 (BSS): Two-day long Astami Snan, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Hindu community, begins at Langalbandh under Bandar Upazila here Sunday with due respect and solemnity.
The holy bath will start at 1.55am on Monday midnight and will continue till 3.00am on Wednesday midnight, Mahatirtha Langalbandh Udjapon Parishad sources said.
Tens of thousands of people, male, female and children, thronged at Langalbandh from different parts of the country by buses, private cars, trucks and trawlers and country-made boats along the rivers Brahmaputra and Meghna.
Devotees from India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka arrived here a day ahead of the Astami Snan.
Chief Executive Officer of Narayanganj Zila Parishad Meraz Hossain said 16 ghats have been properly repaired and renovated at a cost of Taka about 1.5 crore and 50 brick built enclosures have been made for changing clothes for women.
Of the 16 ghats, Premtola, Lalit Sadhur Ghat, Annapurna Ghat, Rajghat, Kali Ghat, Gandhi Ghat and Joy Kali Ghat are the most prominent. The ghats were illuminated with lights.
