Athlete Mahabub dies in road mishap

NARAYANGANJ, Dec 4 (UNB): SAF Games gold medalist Mahbub Alam was killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Kanchpur in Sonargaon Saturday.
Mahbub Alam (35), the fastest man of Bangladesh, won the first gold medal for Bangladesh in 200-metre sprint in 1995 South Asian Federation (SAF) Games.
He was also a member of the Bangladesh Athletics Federation and hailed from Kishoreganj district.
Officer-in-charge of the local police station Shahrier Hossain said, the accident took place in the area when a microbus carrying Mahbub crashed into a stationary truck as its driver lost control over steering, leaving Mahbub dead on the spot and injuring the microbus driver early in the morning. Mahbub was going to Dhaka from Comilla.
