Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Atiur Rahman on Saturday stressed capacity building on environmental issues for both the central and the commercial bankers for structured green banking practices. Addressing the inauguration of the Green Finance Conference 2014, he also noted that this is high time for the banks and financial institutions to move forward with research and development which is indispensable for exploring appropriate technologies and techniques and new green products. The conference was organised by BB at Bangladesh Bank Training Academy (BBTA) in the capital’s Mirpur area. “Better collaboration and partnerships among leading businesses, investors and key public institutions can lead to new models of inclusive, green and sustainable growth,” Atiur said. Atiur also pointed out that green technology may be an effective way to improve resource efficiency and coordinate different processes responsible for green growth. “It’s the potential solution to reduce the adversity of environmental degradation and climate change,” he said, according to UNB.
