Condemning the attack on Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists reportedly by the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men on the Dhaka University campus, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Monday it is an ominous sign for politics, reports UNB.
"When Chhatra Dal is trying to come up with positive student politics with a fresh vigour following its successful council, the Bangladesh Chhatra League cadres attacked its president, secretary and other leaders and activists. This is not only a condemnable incident, but also an ominous sign for Bangladesh politics," he said.
Fakhrul came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after visiting the wounded JCD leaders and activists at a city hospital. He also heard details about the attack from the them.
The BNP leader demanded the government take immediate action against those involved in the attack.
Fakhrul said Chhatra League is trying to spoil Chhatra Dal's efforts to create a new chapter in student politics. "Both the Awami League and Chhatra League are terrorist organisations."
Meanwhile, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged on Monday the ruling party leaders have developed personal banks and treasuries in their houses by depleting both the state-owned and private banks.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP's Nayapaltan central office, he doubted whether the recent drive against some clubs and ruling party leaders is mere eyewash as 'big corrupts' still remain out of touch.
"Awami League and Jubo League leaders have made banks and treasuries in their own houses after making banks in Bangladesh penniless. They're keeping their surplus money at homes after siphoning off huge amount abroad," the BNP leader alleged.
He said the ruling party leaders, including the small ones of its associate bodies, amassed huge 'ill-gotten' money by indulging in 'corruption and plundering'.
"The entire country has got exhausted due to plundering, gambling, extortion, tender manipulation and other misdeeds by the ruling party leaders,” he said.
