Audit and Accounts officials urged to discharge their duties properly

Finance Adviser AB Mirza Azizul Islam has called upon the members of the Civil Service Audit and Accounts cadre to discharge their responsibilities properly so that optimum utilisation of the country's public resource is ensured.
Dr Mirza Aziz was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of 'Departmental Training Programme for the 27th BCS: Audit and Accounts Probationers' at Financial Management Academy (FIMA) in the city Wednesday.
About their role in ensuring financial discipline in the country, the finance adviser said, there is a post of chief accounts officer in every ministry of the government. These officers come from BCS Audit and Accounts cadre. Their main responsibility is to supervise whether the respective ministry's budget is being implemented properly and also to ensure proper compliance of government rules and regulations in this respect.
All civil servants, including those of Audit and Accounts cadre, should perform their duties honestly, he said adding "When you are asked for opinions about anything on any file, you should do the work sincerely and independently by giving priority to greater national interest."
"During discharge of duties under political masters, some civil servants like to work in accordance with their masters' will, ignoring national interest. But such activities never benefit the country and the nation. In all respect, as an employee of the republic, they should think of national interest," Mirza Aziz said.
About Annual Development Programme (ADP), he said some ADP projects were implemented since July last. The next elected government will be able to implement the remaining ADP projects with resources allocated in this connection.
When asked about loan defaulters' participation in polls, Mirza Aziz said, the Election Commission will take steps in this connection.
He also urged the FIMA to organise training courses regularly so that the officials were taught financial discipline and ethical principles that were needed at this moment of the national transition.
Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh Ahmed Ataul Hakeem and Finance Secretary Mohammad Tareque also spoke at the ceremony.
