Aug 21 grenade attack victim seeks job, medical treatment

Md Somrat Akbar Sobuj, a victim of August 21, 2004 grenade attack, is moving door to door again for job, medical treatment, financial assistance and rehabilitation.
The victim, then only 18 years old, said he took part in the procession and joined the meeting.
Injured in the grenade attack, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) by one of his relatives. But fearing arrest, he left the hospital.
His mother was also injured in a grenade attack. He still bears splinters in his body and is unable to walk properly.
To bear the cost of his treatment he had to sell his land. He now has to stay in a rented house with his mother, brothers and sisters, the cost of which he is unable to bear.
Sobuj, who hails from Char Lakkhipur of Madaripur Sadar, worked for a short period as MLSS in the Eastern Bridge project of Chittagong. As the project ended in 2014, he has become unemployed again.
He now sells fruits when he feels physically well while his brothers work as helpers in vehicles.
