VICTORIA, Australia, Nov 25 (Commodity Online): With the past ten days giving out positive climatic conditions that would ripen the cereal and pulse crops in Victoria province of Australia, possible rains later this week has made crop forecast there in doldrums.
Last week, malting barley enjoyed a premium price of $75, a $15 high on the same time of previous year. At $ 276 a ton for malting and $201 ton for feed, the crop was delivered to Geelong.
Meanwhile, emerging variety of hindmarsh gaining currency with many Victorian barley producers, popularity for gairdner, baudin and buloke varieties have remained steady among malsters.
The important thing is that about 25 per cent of the Victorian barley crop sown is that of hindmarsh variety and the recent failure of the variety to gain malting classification has disappointed many growers.
It is Grain Trade Australia, an official agency that classifies malting.
However, China prefers hindmarsh malting variety.
