Aus farming may exceed target in Magura

MAGURA, June 21: Farmers have expressed the hope that Aus farming would exceed its target set by the government for thisdistrict during this season.
They are now busy Aus cultivation due to adequate rainfall and incentives provided by Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
Sources at DAE said they have taken up a scheme to bring 5,828 hectares of land under Aus cultivation in the district this season with a production target of 16,590 tonnes paddy.
The DAE has already provided 300 farmers with incentives in the district. Each farmer was given 20kg of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), 10kg of muriate of potash (MOP) and 5kg of seeds.
After getting assistance from the government, the farmers are expected to exceed the Aus farming target.
Mrinal Kanti, a farmer of village Bashkutha under Sadar upazila, said, "I have brought one bigha of land under Aus cultivation. I have got incentives from DAE. I am expecting a bumper production of Aus this season".
Ariful Haque, another farmer in the same area, said, "I have brought three bighas of land under Aus cultivation. I am very happy as Aus land is inundated by adequate rainfall."
Dr Hayat Mahamud, deputy director at DAE in Magura, said, "Aus cultivation requires less groundwater as it mainly depends on rains. Consequently, Aus cultivation is eco-friendly. We are encouraging the farmers to increase Aus cultivation in this district".
