Australia names strong squad to play Germany

Wednesday, 16 March 2011

SYDNEY, Mar 15 (AFP): Socceroos coach Holger Osieck on Tuesday named a full-strength squad to play Germany in a March 29 friendly, featuring 15 players who took part in the Asian Cup earlier this year. Osieck included all his big guns, including Tim Cahill, Harry Kewell, and Lucas Neill, but also named promising goalkeeper Mitch Langerak as an understudy to the aging Mark Schwarzer. Borussia Dortmund's Langerak, 22, made a stunning Bundesliga debut in his side's 3-1 win over powerhouse Bayern Munich last month. Australia face Germany in Moenchengladbach, hoping to avenge the humiliating 4-0 defeat inflicted on them at last year's World Cup in South Africa. Squad: Tim Cahill, David Carney, Brett Emerton, Brett Holman, Mile Jedinak, Harry Kewell, Neil Kilkenny, Robbie Kruse, Mitchell Langerak, Jon McKain, Matt McKay, Lucas Neill, Sasa Ognenovski, Nikita Rukavytsya, Mark Schwarzer, Carl Valeri, Luke Wilkshire.
