Australian shares close higher

The Australian share market gained ground in afternoon trade to close higher, despite lower iron ore prices and no surprises from the RBA's latest board meeting. At the close on Tuesday, the benchmark SP/ASX200 index was up 28.7 points, or 0.51 per cent, at 5,658.5, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 27.5 points, or 0.49 per cent, at 5,656.8, according to preliminary figures. On the ASX 24, the September share price index futures contract was 33 points higher at 5,642, with 17,473 contracts traded, according to skynews.com
