Auto-rickshaw driver murdered in Sunamganj

Miscreants hijacked an auto-rickshaw after strangulating its driver and dumping his body in a haor (water body) in Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj district on Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as Belayet Haque, son of Ziaul Haque, a resident of Mahtabpur village in Biswanath upazila. Shafiqul Islam, sub-inspector of Jawabazar Police camp, said locals spotted Belayet’s body beside Dinanpur haor at Jawabazar village around 6:00 pm and informed police. Later, they recovered the body, bearing marks of strangulation, and sent it to a local hospital for autopsy. The victim’s family said Belayet remained missing since he went out of home with his CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Friday. Miscreants might have strangled Belayet to death and took away his auto-rickshaw, said SI Shafiqul. A case was filed, according to UNB.
