Automation may help exceed target at CCH

CHITTAGONG, Oct 14: The Automation programme installed at Chittagong Customs House (CCH) has brought about wideranging dynamism and the target of revenue earning of the government is expected to exceed during the current fiscal, concerned sources said.
With the introduction of the automation system, the old picture of CCH has completely been changed. More changes are likely to take place from time to time in future, such a note of optimism has been expressed by the stakeholders.
Due to prompt vigilance of the joint Forces over the automation programme members of the business community have started deriving benefits in an unhindered manner. Bill submission programmes are now being executed from individual places of work. While the rate of submission of bills manually was 600 daily in the past now it has exceeded 900. Sales of automation prepared cards in an enhanced manner, is a glaring example of that.
Under the newly installed automation programme, Export General Manifest (EGM) Import General Manifest (IGM) and bills are submitted within a moment. As a result, while 42 steps used to be crossed in the past for clearing imported goods now it is being settled within 5 steps.
In a similar manner, businessmen are now able to execute the formalities through only 6 steps instead 142 in exporting goods abroad. It has radically changed the entire shape of customs house. Stakeholders including the businessmen are quite optimist of the success of the automation project.
