AUW academic programme begins in Ctg Apr 5

CHITTAGONG, Mar 7: Academic programme of Asian University of Women (AUW), with 120 female students on its roll from 5 Asian countries including Bangladesh, will formally begin on April 5 next on the temporary campus based on MM Ali Road in the port city.
Despite being meritorious, the female students who have so far been deprived of the facilities of higher studies due to lack of financial solvency and other problems, AUW is now set to launch its journey to fulfil their long cherished desire of prosecuting higher studies, concerned sources said.
AUW sources said, on being well-equipped with accommodation facilities, the university with the scientific and professional knowledge, will provide academic facilities at the graduation and post-graduation levels equivalent to that of Harvard University, a world-acclaimed higher seat of learning of the United States (US).
Sources further said, besides merit, students having leadership qualities, have been selected for admission to the AUW and necessary initiatives have been taken to begin the academic programme with 120 students of Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Cambodia at the initial stage.
Of them 40 to 50 per cent students will be admitted from Bangladesh. Selected female students have been advised to be present on the campus by March 28 next.
Although the entrepreneur had decided to establish the AUW at Bogra at first but later, considering necessary infrastructural facilities, they finally selected Chittagong as the proper place for the university.
