Awami League doesn\\\'t pursue politics of arrest: Nasim

Thursday, 20 March 2014

Awami League (AL) presidium member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim Wednesday said AL does not pursue the politics of arrest, reports BSS.
"We have nothing to do if the court doesn't allow bail to anybody. The judiciary is completely independent," he said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.
Zillur Rahman Smriti Sangsad organised the discussion in the auditorium of the National Press Club in observance of the first death anniversary of late president of the country Md Zillur Rahman.
Krishak League Vice-president MA Karim chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by AL presidium member Advocate Sahara Khatun, Dhaka City AL joint secretary and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, Vice-chancellor of World University Prof Dr Abdul Mannan Chowdhury and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana.
Mohammad Nasim said, "BNP is a party of happy persons. They can't take part in any movement and they can't tolerate hardship.  How they will launch movement? Sheikh Hasina launched all the democratic movement in the country."
Pointing at the BNP, the senior AL leader said, "Have patience for five years. Restructure your party in cool head as preparations for the next national polls. Let the government carry out its tasks. Point out our flaws and mistakes through your constructive criticism."
The Minister said the next national polls would be held after five years and there would never be restoration of the caretaker system of administration in the country.
Pointing at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, the AL presidium member said, "You have committed many mistakes. Your party men will take part in movement against you if you commit mistake again."
Terming the opposition in the House as a gentle party, Mohammad Nasim, a senior parliamentarian, said, "Many men think that there is no opposition party in the parliament if there is no use of abusive words in the House. It's a fault if there is no abusive language in the House and again it is treated as a fault if there is use of abusive language in the parliament. What a sort of culture it is?"
Paying his deep homage to Zillur Rahman, the senior AL leader said, "Late Zillur Rahman was like a latent philosopher in Awami League, who shone in the bad days of the party. His role after the 1/11 political changeover of 2007 bore the testimony to the
fact. The late AL leader never compromised as far as ideologies and principles were concerned." Speaking at the function, Advocate Quamrul Islam said, "The actors of the 1/11 political changeover have become active again. Like in the past, they have been hatching conspiracies to kill democracy alongside they are involved in character assassination of the politicians".
The Food Minister alleged that some members in the civil society are working as lobbyists of a vested quarter and their sources of income should be traced out.
