Awareness campaign on PPR opens today

The launching of awareness campaign on Public Procurement Rules (PPR) 2008 under the Public Procurement Reform Project-II will be held today (Tuesday), said a press release.
Minister for Planning Air Vice Marshal (retd) AK Khandker will inaugurate the campaign as the chief guest at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre at 10:00am in the city.
Minister for Food and Disaster Management Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Minister for Communications Syed Abul Hossain and Acting Country Director of World Bank Bangladesh Zahid Hussain will be present as the special guests at the inaugural session.
Secretary of the IME Division of Ministry of Planning Md Habib Ullah Majumder will preside over the inaugural function.
The Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of IME Division in association with the Bangladesh Centre for Communication Programmes (BCCP) is organising the programme.
A large number of participants from the government procuring entities, bidding and business community, development partners, media and civil society are expected to attend the launching ceremony.
Through the campaign the procuring entities, bidding community, media and civil society will get the right message about PPR and through awareness and capacity building, the stakeholders will be able to comply with the provisions of the PPR.
Compliance with the PPR 2008 in procuring goods, works and services is mandatory under the Public Procurement Act (PPA) 2006.
The CPTU is implementing the PPRP-II supported by the World Bank to enhance transparency, accountability, fair competition and skills in public procurement, the release added.
