Awareness for development of women, children stressed

RANGPUR, May 6 (BSS): Adequate public awareness can ensure safe maternity, maternal and neonatal health services, sanitation, better environment, birth registration and eradication of social curses for development of women and children.
Speakers said this today at an orientation workshop organised for leading personalities by the District Information Office under the fourth-phase of the Maas Communication Programme for Development of Children & Women Project.
Sadar Upazila Chairman Nasima Zaman Bobby attended the workshop, arranged at Chandanpat union parishad auditorium in Sadar upazila of the district, as the chief guest with Senior District Information Officer (DIO) Humayun Kabir in the chair.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Priyosindhu Talukder, Chandanpat Union Chairman Aminur Rahman, President of Chandanpat union Awami League (AL) Mossarraf Hossain, General Secretary of Mominpur union AL Bahauddin Sarker and President of Rangpur Press Club AKM Fazlul Haque attended as the special guests.
Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Salahuddin Mahmud, UNO Priyosindhu Talukder and Senior DIO Humayun Kabir presented three keynote papers respectively on "Maternal and Child Health Care & Safe Maternity", "Prevention of Dowry & Child Marriage" and "Sanitation, Environment & Birth Registration."
Twenty-eight participants including local leading personalities, officials, public representatives, teachers, religious leaders, community leaders, civil society members, journalists, professionals and elite took part in the workshop.
The resource persons discussed about maternal and child health care, safe pregnancy and maternity, dowry, child marriage, sanitation, environment, birth registration, breast feeding, vaccination of babies, hygiene of the adolescents, sexual harassment, women empowerment, safe drinking water, food adulteration, drug abuse and other issues.
They narrated various epoch-making steps taken by the present government through re-launching community clinics to ensure health services for the rural people, sub-stipends for female students and other programmes for development of women and children.
The speakers stressed for creating mass public awareness on these issues to ensure smooth development of children and women in building a middle income digital nation through realising the Vision 2021 as envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The chief guest urged every conscious citizen, women community leaders, public representatives, civil society members, media workers and teachers to work with utmost integrity aimed at ensuring sustainable development of the children and women.
